I am a teacher at heart. I taught in the classrooms. I still do when we have child audiences at the Museum and I got to my preschool to teach music. A good number of my relatives are or were teachers. My Grandmother was a Math teacher many moons ago. Teaching, for my father, was an avocation. As a gradeschooler, I used to carry all his used test papers in my bulging school bag feeling much like a teacher. I recall how my sister and I would patiently wait it in the car, slapping those peaky mosquitoes away, as we waited evenings for him to come out from his engineering classes. My mother, in early 1950’s, was to me a ” jeepney teacher”. With a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, she would traverse in the Cuty via bus to teach in 3 university.
